The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has opened a public comment period for a proposed solar project featuring up to 200 MW of solar capacity combined with energy storage on public lands in Riverside County, California.
The proposal, submitted by Redonda PV LLC—a subsidiary of Clearway Energy Group LLC—will accept public feedback until July 1. The Department of Interior (DOI) agency has scheduled an in-person public meeting to discuss the project on June 18.
The planned Redonda photovoltaic (PV) facility is set to occupy approximately 887 acres (359 hectares) of BLM-managed land east of Desert Center in the Colorado Desert. The solar farm will be supported by a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of up to 250 MW.
Separately, BLM is also seeking input on another 200-MW solar project in Nevada, proposed by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources LLC, which includes a matching 200-MW battery storage system.
