Chinese power equipment maker Dongfang Electric Corp has successfully installed a 26-MW offshore wind turbine at its Dongying testing and certification innovation base, touted as the world’s largest in terms of single-unit capacity and rotor diameter.

The turbine generates 62 kWh of electricity per rotation, and with an average wind speed of 10 meters per second, it can produce approximately 100 GWh annually—enough to power 55,000 homes.

Equipped with ultra-long, low-load blades, the turbine boasts corrosion resistance and super-typhoon durability. Designed for offshore locations with wind speeds exceeding 8 meters per second, its advanced drive train improves efficiency by over 2% compared to traditional models, increasing overall power output.

Comprising more than 30,000 components sourced from a fully independent and controllable supply chain, the turbine features third-generation, fully integrated semi-direct drive technology combining shaft, gearbox, and generator. Its rotor sweeps an area of 77,000 square meters, equivalent to 10.5 standard football fields.
