PITTSBURGH -- Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton today announced an agreement to participate in the Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) Smart Ideas for Your Business program. Under the agreement, Eaton will offer energy audits to ComEd’s data center customers.
As a technical service provider for the Smart Ideas program, Eaton’s Energy Solutions Group will provide interested ComEd data center customers audits that identify conservation opportunities to help reduce energy costs, improve energy efficiency and reduce maintenance costs. ComEd provides electrical utility services to approximately 3.8 million customers in Northern Illinois, including many critical data centers.
“With more than 35 years of energy engineering and monitoring experience, Eaton is well positioned to help ComEd data center customers reduce energy costs,” said John White, business unit manager for Eaton Energy Solutions. “Eaton’s team of highly-experienced energy engineers can identify cost-effective, flexible solutions that are designed to increase facility efficiencies and reduce demand on the North Illinois electrical grid.”
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers can reduce electricity consumption by as much as 81 percent through projects such as airflow management, server and storage optimization, and installation of efficient power and cooling equipment. Energy audits performed by Eaton help identify these energy-saving opportunities. The audits will also provide data center customers with a blueprint for allocation of resources, funding, and energy management strategies and planning.
Through the Smart Ideas for Your Business data center assessments, ComEd provides direct funding up to qualified Data Center Technical Service Providers (TSPs) to perform approved energy-efficiency assessments. The assessments will help customers make important decisions about their mission critical facilities by providing key information about energy-efficiency measures.
