Ecomondo and Key Energy bring together the biogas world, Italy’s “green deposit”
Rimini -- A seminar, promoted by CIB and CIC with the coordination and support of the Technical-Scientific Committees of both expos, will be held at Rimini Fiera on November 7th.
For the first time the experiences of the agricultural and organic waste cycles will be brought together.
The Italian biogas market is going from strength to strength, supported by the increasing development of both the agricultural world and the organic waste cycle. Compared to 2010, biogas plants in Italy have risen by almost 82%, increasing production by more than half (52%). With over a thousand plants, for a total installed power that will soon exceed 1,000 MWe, Italy confirms its role as the second most important European market, after Germany and the third at world level, after China. With the generation of renewable electricity alone, in 2020 the “anaerobic digestion” sector will be able to reach a net economic value of 3.2 billion euros not including incentives (source: Althesys).
With the aim of bringing the various experiences together, Ecomondo and Key Energy, the key expos of the Italian sustainability world which will be held at Rimini Fiera from 5th to 8th November, will host a day dedicated to every aspect of biogas, which foresees the organization of a seminar entitled “The biogas supply chain: a green deposit worth investigating”. The initiative, which intends enabling networking between the two “cores” of biogas, that which is based on re-use of agricultural waste and that based on organic waste from source-segregated collection, is organized by CIB (Italian Biogas and Gasification Consortium) and CIC (Italian Consortium of Composters) and participants include the International Solid Waste Association, International Energy Agency, European Biogas Association, European Compost Network, Federambiente, Confagricoltura, Itabia, CRPA, ENEA, and the Chimica Verde (Green Chemistry) Association.
At the meeting, which will be held on Friday 7th November at Rimini Fiera, an insight will be given on the sector’s state of the art, regarding both biogas obtained from the waste supply chain and that obtained from liquid manure, by-products and integrated crops. The seminar will provide in-depth coverage of technical and strategic issues connected with the exploitation of supply chains connected with the production of biogas. The division of the sessions according to the various types of feedstock used for biogas production will enable to describe the production processes, regulations involved and commercial options for boosting the value of this “new product” in a more ample manner. A glance will also be given to development prospects and the innovation connected with them in a logic that aims at making biogas the ideal technological platform for the development of green chemistry in Italy.
A REAL PORTION OF SUSTAINABLE CITY AT THE EXPO
Sustainable City occupies Hall B7 (6,000 square metres of expo space), providing an ideal model for a sustainable city, showing solutions, technologies and designs that enable to improve the quality of citizens´ lives and favour the development of areas with a sustainable efficient slant.
In its centre, at the entrances, the ´set´ installed by designer Angelo Grassi features the beating heart of Sustainable City, recreated from a cross-section of a portion of a town, with impressive towering city skylines, and hosting leading Italian and international companies specialised in areas related to sustainability.
The city centre is dominated by a huge suspended terrestrial globe, from which all the technological connections lead off. The tubes travel from towering structures under continuous construction (which host local authorities and small, medium and large enterprises), reach the Park & Ride zone, the agora assembly area (the ideal location for exchanging ideas and networking with the surrounding worlds), the academic area, which will host Italian university students attending courses on environmental topics. Following the luminous connections southwards, one reaches the city´s large main street, which features central flowerbeds, trees and pools, with zones for relaxation with fountains: walking through them, visitors reach the hall with the rustic and catering areas with a restaurant serving zero-mile food.
