Fisia Babcock started 2008 with a EUR 570m order backlog
With an order backlog of 570 million Euro (IFRS) FISIA BABCOCK ENVIRONMENT GmbH (FBE) has started in the new financial year. The development of order input and turnover of the technology company was definitely more positive than expected, explained Managing Directors Dr. Gian Paolo Maccone and Dr. Gert Riemenschneider. The sales revenue increased by 70 million up to a total amount of more than 242 million Euro last year (all figures in IFRS).
Today the company which has its roots in its traditional predecessor companies Steinmüller, Babcock and Noell, belongs in full to the Italian Impregilo Group.
The very positive business year 2007 has lead FBE to a leading position of European technology ventures in the field of waste incineration and flue gas cleaning technologies.
Last year more than 20 large orders were processed. The Business Unit Waste-to-Energy profited from the expanding demand for plants for thermal treatment of residual waste, industrial waste and refuse derived fuel across Europe. A total of 10 new orders were written in the books of FBE, among them the turn-key waste-to-energy plant in Krefeld (Germany). FBEs’ ongoing projects include the grate system and steam generator for plants in Heringen and Mönkeloh (Germany) and Kristiansand (Norway). A grate system is being delivered for the municipal waste incineration plant in Clermont-Ferrand (France).
The business unit Flue Gas Cleaning has booked new orders for the large-scale thermal power plants in Karlsruhe, Moorburg, Datteln and Mannheim, in Germany. Furthermore FBE is supplying a flue gas desulphurisation plant based on the seawater technology in Puerto Coronel (Chile).
Before Christmas 2007 FBE was able to successfully finalise the test run of the first large-scale waste incineration plant in Riihimäki (Finnland). Altogether in the whole 2007 year six plants were delivered to the respective Clients.
High demands on the procurement market of plant construction, capacity constraints and the increase of prices were successfully faced by FBE during the business year 2007. ‘To secure the quality and adherence to delivery dates the quality management and expediting staffs have been doubled ‘ said Dr. Riemenschneider. FBE is continuously expanding its supply chain, and presently avails itself from products and components manufactured in several European countries.
Due to good order situation the Company raised his workforce up to 270 people, the majority of them being well skilled qualified engineers.
Managing Director Dr. Gert Riemenschneider announced the commercial expansion into new markets, amongst others, FBE has a high interest in North America’s opportunities. To increase its international FBE founded, by the end of 2006, a fully owned subsidiary named ‘Steinmüller International GmbH’. ‘Our focus is to use the worldwide well-known brand name and keep the traditional good performance of the predecessor Company.’ explains the Managing Director Dr. Maccone.
