RWE Innogy is delighted that The Highland Council has given planning consent for the up to 9 megawatts (MW) River Pattack hydroelectric scheme located on the south side of Loch Laggan, 10 km north west of Dalwhinnie.

Unlike a run-of-river hydro scheme, which is dependent on the water that is currently available in the river to generate electricity, River Pattack is a storage scheme. This means it has the ability of retaining and storing water, and can therefore generate electricity on demand.

RWE Innogy’s project developer Jon Assheton said: “We are delighted that the River Pattack hydroelectric scheme has been consented by The Highland Council. The decision to grant a positive determination extends the region’s long standing and successful association with hydro power.

“We are also pleased that this scheme will be able to contribute to the Scottish Government’s target of 100% of electricity demand met from renewables by 2020.”

In Scotland, we operate 14 hydroelectric schemes that provide nearly 26MW of power. When combined with our 9 schemes in England and Wales, RWE Innogy UK generates a total of some 80 MW of hydro power in the UK.
