Greensmith Energy recently announced that Oncor Electric Delivery has selected Greensmith as the software provider for its microgrid facility in Dallas, Texas. Oncor`s advanced microgrid consists of: a carport PV array, ground mount PV array, microturbine, diesel generators, gas reciprocating generator and battery storage unit.

The software upgrade and installation is considered a milestone for the industry and demonstrates the value of leveraging Greensmith`s software platform GEMS. The Oncor microgrid showcases how microgrids can perform grid-tied and off-grid in order to provide continuous, reliable power - which is especially important in regions with severe storms and unpredictable weather conditions.

Greensmith`s software integrates all of Oncor`s microgrid assets and orchestrates performance of a variety of complex grid applications supporting power quality and energy availability. As energy storage systems are networked into a variety of distributed energy resources, including solar and other forms of local generation such as diesel, GEMS becomes the backbone of an intelligent distributed energy resource management system (DERMS). Linked together, storage and distributed energy resources can address both supply and demand needs, as well as, supply select grid services.

"We chose Greensmith as a partner and software provider to help expand the functionality of our microgrid and enhance individual components and overall system reliability and performance," said Michael Quinn, Vice President Strategy and Chief Technology Officer at Oncor.

"When you look beyond the sum of its parts, a network of distributed energy resources orchestrated by advanced energy storage and software, is precisely where the energy industry is heading," said John Jung, Greensmith President and CEO. "Having successfully developed Greensmith`s multi-application grid software through hundreds of megawatts of system integration and installation experience on either side of the meter- our GEMS platform stands alone as the most proven software package available to energy storage operators."

Oncor is Texas` largest transmission and distribution utility and the sixth largest in the U.S., serving more than 10 million Texans living in 402 cities and 91 counties across the state. Oncor builds, operates and maintains over 121,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines that serve over 3.3 million electric delivery points.
