Scotland’s newest crematorium
And why they chose Novus cremation equipment
In the early part of this year we announced how Scottish based Horizon Cremation was planning what was described as a new generation, state-of-the-art crematorium in the beautiful Ayrshire countryside. In the same article we also reported how, after considerable research, they had commissioned Matthews Environmental Solutions to design and manufacture the bespoke cremation equipment.
Now we are delighted to report that most of the crematorium’s construction work has been completed and we are currently undertaking the manufacture of the specially designed Novus human cremation equipment.
Horizon’s inspired architectural concept for their outstanding new crematorium, which is being developed within an exquisite parkland setting, reflects the most modern thinking and incorporates the extensive use of glass and locally sourced natural materials. It will accommodate 160 mourners in seated comfort and this tasteful facility will also incorporate an open-plan reception area with HD digital audio and LED screen should extra capacity be required.
After many meetings, our designers created the bespoke cremation equipment based on a single Novus wide-chamber cremator incorporating the latest hot hearth configuration to maximise efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. The unit we designed also includes a reagent injection time flue gas treatment system and the very latest and most advanced Matthews modular control system for ease of operation and unquestioned reliability. As part of the installation Horizon also specified a coffin charger, coffin cold storage unit and cremated remains processor, whilst an important aspect of the specification was our acclaimed 10-year all-inclusive service contract.
Following the approval of our design proposals, our engineering team is now pushing ahead with the complex construction, which will be completed and tested ready for transporting up to Scotland by mid-January. After the installation by our specialist site team, it is planned to commence the refractory lining before firing and curing the refractories prior to the commissioning procedure and final hand-over in February.
Horizon Cremation has said, “By working closely with the team at Matthews, we know we have the best and most environmentally advanced cremation equipment and abatement technology available.”
