Smog concentration will be reduced by biomass heating
In the current smog situation in virtually all Czech and Moravian regions, CZ Biom considers it necessary to draw attention to the unused possibilities of reducing emissions and improving air quality. One of the most affordable and practical responses is to use gentle forms of biomass heating.
Not only at the time of inversion, higher use of renewable resources can reduce the concentration of hazardous substances. These are mainly clean sources of heat for household heating - for example modern automatic pellet boilers, heat pumps, quality fireplace or stove. There is also a significant difference in whether citizens burn clean, dry wood in modern stoves or coal or even garbage in unsustained rusty boilers.
But green technologies are not just the domain of households. Dozens of municipalities in the Czech Republic started to use also waste heat for heating, which is generated during the operation of a biogas plant usually located on the farm. In many places they also got rid of coal-fired boiler rooms and switched to biomass heating. For example, the municipality of Žlutice or the town of Třebíč, which use wood chips and straw for heat supply, have relieved from frequent smog.
“In order to keep smog worrying in the future, we consider it important to restore effective forms of support for austerity measures and the installation of clean energy sources. This would not only help the air, but it would also be an injection for the Czech economy and the labor market. ” Jan Habart from CZ Biom appeals to change.
He joins the opinion of economist Miroslav Zámečník, who in a weekend interview for Aktualne.cz confirmed the advantage of support programs such as “Green Savings”, even at the time of cuts. According to a member of NERV, this program was successful, ended due to administrative problems. Moreover, it could be spread throughout the country and differentiated according to regions where it is appropriate to employ people. 1
Supporting biomass heating can thus solve several problems affecting Czech citizens at the same time.
