TEIA Releases Complete Security Specification for IoT-based Energy Systems
The Trusted Energy Interoperability Alliance (TEIA) announced the general availability of TEIA 1.0 Trust Model specification for digital energy systems.
As the global energy industry moves toward digital management, AI and IoT devices have created interoperability and security challenges due to proprietary security systems and the need for unified interfaces in AI-based cloud services for energy management. TEIA 1.0 provides a universal, open security format to solve this problem. This is crucial in the face of growing malicious attacks on connected energy systems worldwide and the growing demand for seamless, real-time operations and data sharing across companies.
TEIA 1.0 enables Internet-connected energy devices—from batteries, EV chargers, and solar inverters to transformers, wind turbines, and power distribution systems—to securely identify themselves to digital energy services like flexibility systems, virtual power plants, and web-based control rooms. This allows such systems to scale efficiently, boosting OEM margins and lowering their bill of materials while avoiding complex web security challenges associated with managing unique data security methods.
“TEIA 1.0 provides digital energy systems designers with a unified security format while preserving their flexibility in implementation choices,” said Cameron Briggs, chairman of TEIA. “This will allow digital energy systems to grow and scale with different members of the value chain specializing in what they do best.”
TEIA 1.0 is available at trusted-energy.org for adoption. The TEIA initiative is open for membership to hardware OEMs, digital energy technology providers, power companies and all innovators in the energy domain. The group continues to develop new technical specifications for digital energy systems.
