Designed as a drop-in replacement of a conventional distribution transformer, our Smart Tx is capable of dynamic autonomous voltage regulation and power factor optimisation. Tailored for grid edge applications, the Smart Tx is a cost effect novel transformer combined with power electronics, state-of-the-art autonomy and on-board analytics. It can be deployed within existing substations and pole-mounted locations with no change in the existing footprint.

The ability to stabilise voltage allows for the penetration of distributed energy resources to be maximised. When acting individually, the Amp X Smart Tx can resolve local grid constraints. When operating as part of a fleet, our Smart Tx can contribute to network stability by providing frequency control at inertial timescales through power flow modulation.

Our Smart Tx brings a data-rich control capability to the edge of the distribution network thanks to its high frequency sensors which are combined with onboard processing. This way, our Smart Tx is able to contribute significantly to increased visibility of supply and demand behaviour on low voltage networks.

The perfect upgrade for low voltage distribution networks

Our Smart Tx products are predicated on a new generation of smart transformers, instrumented to provide visibility, and intelligent to allow autonomous control. The Amp X Smart Tx serves as a drop-in replacement for existing transformers and can be rolled out as part of the normal upgrade cycle. High frequency instrumentation allows high resolution monitoring and high precision autonomous control.

Our Smart Tx technology gives us the ability to precisely and dynamically control voltage at a high frequency. This allows us to suppress or introduce harmonics and other transients. Such intentional offsets can be used to stabilise grid behaviour, generate small changes in power consumption or place communications waveforms onto the power line.

Each Smart Tx is an autonomous network device that analyses and responds to issues it observes in its vicinity. Locally, it provides system stability and increases the capacity for distributed energy resources. Our Smart Tx achieves this control on the edge without the need for high frequency intervention from cloud infrastructure. Each Smart Tx first and foremost protects its local network. This decentralised control approach also avoids the need for high bandwidth communication or high availability cloud infrastructure for the operator.
