OCI - Benzene, Toluene and Xylene (BTX)

Usage

BTX, one of the main aromatic hydrocarbon compounds, is a colorless liquid with a unique scent that is widely used as a base material in the chemical industry. Benzene is used as an intermediate for various plastic production. Toluene is used as a solvent for various chemical products and as a raw material for DNT. Xylene is used as a solvent.

Production Process

BTX is produced through the hydrogenation of coke oven light oil, a byproduct from steel production, by reaction under high temperature and pressure. Impurities and unsaturated hydrocarbons are extracted through the process.
