Biomass / Waste Streams

SHARE
Biomass / Waste streams can come available in large streams.  It is important to distinguish between clean waste streams, like arboricultural biomass and unprocessed waste wood, and rest streams which contain pollution after manufacturing, like impregnated wood. Energy companies prefer clean streams in order to sell the produced electricity as ‘green power’. At this moment, there is still insecurity about the relation between the pollution in non-clean biomass and therefore as a consequence the higher production-costs (like fluegas cleaning or extra pre-treated steps).

Furthermore, even clean waste streams must be pre-treated because of the predicate waste matter (for environmental regulations) and therefore the costs. This means that there is insecurity about the relation between the price of the biomass and the quality. A disadvantage of waste streams is that the available quantity is dependent on developments in other markets (prices in other areas can vary), and also process improvements can lead tot diminished availability.
