The exploitation of `biomass` resources represents an important chapter in the development of renewable sources in Europe. This source is expected to provide a significant contribution to the production of electricity, heat and biofuels, which represent the main alternative to fossil fuels in the transportation sector. Enel Green Power is planning to offer its support for the development of the bio-energy industry in Italy.
We are working towards the creation of pilot crop areas for the generation of energy in rural areas that are currently poorly used or being abandoned, with the objective to exploit biomass to generate electricity and to be used in cogeneration systems.
Moreover, in collaboration with the Scuola Universitaria Sant`Anna and the University of Pisa, we are developing a power farm, where we intend to experiment innovative crops for the production of biomasses with a high content of energy and develop processes and technologies for the generation of alternative, low-cost biofuels.
