In the Standby and Renting system, a genset is used as a backup power supply. An automatic transfer switch (ATS) ensures the genset will start automatically when a mains failure signal is detected, decreasing or even eliminating the loss from a power outage. When the mains resumes, the ATS will detect and synchronize with it, then shut down after soft unloading and the Mains will resume supply of the electrical load. Automatic Transfer Switches are used widely in standby communications, renting, and mutual dual standby systems.
