HBControlsModel LPC-25DS -Phase-Angle Solid State Power Controller for Precise Thermal Management

SHARE

The HBControls LPC-25DS is a phase-angle controlled solid state power controller designed for precision thermal management in resistive heating applications. It integrates a Crydom D2425 solid state relay and a microprocessor-based control circuit. This controller delivers variable power outputs from 0% to 100% based on the analog input, making it ideal for maintaining targeted temperature levels. It can handle up to 15 amps across 24Vac to 280Vac line voltages. The Crydom D2425's output circuit comprises back-to-back SCRs that withstand surges up to 250 amps, utilizing a direct bond copper substrate to minimize thermal fluctuations and extend device longevity beyond 7 million hours. The LPC-25DS accommodates several analog inputs, including popular ranges like 0-10Vdc and 4-20mA. Additionally, it can be operated with an external 24Vac power supply, with options for pre-assembly. This product is especially useful in harsh environments, offering effective and reliable phase-angle control.

The HBControls LPC-25DS is a proportional output (phase-angle) solid state power controller, utilizing a Crydom D2425 solid state relay and a microprocessor-based control board. Fully assembled and ready-to-use, the LPC-25DS / D2425 solid-state relay provides 0% to 100% power to resistive loads in proportion to the analog input provided. The LPC-25DS is rated to 15 amps at line voltages between 24Vac and 280Vac, and ideally suited to resistive heating applications where precise temperature control is desired.

The output circuit of the Crydom D2425 consists of two SCRs configured in inverse-parallel (back-to-back) capable of withstanding surge currents up-to 250 amps (non-repetitive). Furthermore, the SCRs are mounted to a DBC substrate (direct bond copper), which minimizes thermal excursions and enhances overall life expectancy. This enables the LPC-25DS to operate safely and reliably in harsh industrial applications with MTBF ratings in excess of 7 million hours.

The LPC-25DS can accept a wide range of analog inputs, including; 0-10Vdc, 1-5Vdc, 2-10Vdc, 1-5Vdc or 4-20mA. An external potentiometer can also be used to control the amount of power applied to the AC load.

The microprocessor-based control board requires an external 24Vac power supply. HBControls offers a range of power supplies perfectly suited for the LPC series power controllers. The LPC-25DS is also available with a 24Vac power supply pre-assembled onto the assembly (“PS-xxx” option).

Phase Angle Control: The output of the LPC-25DS / D2425 will only conduct load current at certain points of the AC sine wave. The point at which it begins to conduct is dependent upon the analog input provided. For example, if the selector switch on the control board is set to 0-10V, then the percentage of power applied to the load will be directly proportional to the 0-10V analog input. If the signal is at 5V, then the output will turn on at the peak of each AC sine wave, effectively applying 50% power. If the load is a heating element and the temperature starts to go beyond the set-point with 50% power being applied, then the controller might reduce its output to 4V. If so, then the solid state relay would reduce the power to 40% by only conducting load current once 60% of the AC sine wave had passed.
