Then, a high-pressure stream of oxygen is released, causing the steel plateto undergo further intense oxidation. The resulting combustion blows away themolten slag, forming a cut in the steel plate.

This quickly heats the steel plate to its vapor-ization temperature, causing it to evaporate and form a hole. As the beam movesacross the steel plate, the holes continuously form a very narrow cut, completingthe cutting of the steel plate.
