Licella Cat-HTR - Hydrothermal Liquefaction Technology
Our patented Cat-HTR™ technology enables a circular economy for a huge variety of natural polymers (biomass) and man-made polymers (plastic). We have the patented and world-leading technology to unlock the value from what others consider waste. By utilising the enormous amount of biomass residues and End-of-Life Plastic that go to landfill or incineration each year, we can create high-value, low-carbon products that reduce our reliance on fossil resources, and reduce emissions in the process.

Compared to both pyrolysis and gasification, the Cat-HTR™ process produces significantly higher yields of biocrude at a lower energy intensity.
Lower carbon footprint?due to?a relatively low reaction temperatures (~300°C) unlike pyrolysis (~500°C) and gasification (~700°C).?
HTL produces a superior biocrude vs. Pyrolysis:
- >50% more energy density (HHV);
- much lower oxygen content;
- less corrosive;
- easier to mix;
- more stable;
- easily transportable.

Licella Technology Development, based in NSW Australia, was established as a Global Centre of Excellence to support our Cat-HTR™ technology development.
Our first-generation Cat-HTR™ Small Pilot Plant was commissioned in 2007. Since Licella was founded, our Cat-HTR™ platform has gone through three reactor scale-ups to its current commercial-ready module. The quality of the oil products is unchanged over three scales of pilot plants.
