Oceana - Marine Turbine
Oceana has developed an innovative marine turbine uniquely designed with eight blades connected to a rotating ring, enhancing its efficiency and minimizing friction. Unlike traditional three-blade designs, this turbine uses a magnetic bearing system that prevents contact and wear, allowing the blades and ring to float seamlessly over the chassis. This ensures a zero-friction environment, leading to long-lasting performance. The turbine architecture is scalable, ranging from 6-foot prototypes to models that can generate over a megawatt of power. With a goal to supply electricity at less than $80/MWh,Oceana`s Techno-Economic Model demonstrates decreasing costs with increasing turbine arrays, making tidal energy more accessible globally. The turbine is constructed from new super-strength composite materials and magnets to endure harsh marine environments, effectively harnessing the potent kinetic energy of ocean currents. It stands out as a robust solution tailored for tidal energy capture.
Zero friction.
The Oceana turbine is as beautifully sculpted as it is effective. In contrast to designs with three blades, our turbine has eight blades that are individually connected to a rotating ring. Each blade is positioned over the rotating ring at a point which balances axial forces exerted by the current flow on either side of the ring. The eight blades and their rotating ring structure together comprise the only moving part in the turbine’s collection architecture. The rotating ring and its blades float over the turbine chassis on a magnetic bearing system. This magnetic system prevents contact and thereby friction and wear between the rotating ring and chassis. The flowing elements of the rotor ring and its blades blend seamlessly into the rest of the turbine’s architecture.
