Resolute-Marine - Ocean Wave Energy System
A Wave2OTM system deployment typically employs several wave energy converters (WECs) that pressurize seawater which is piped ashore to directly drive a seawater reverse-osmosis (RO) desalination system. Wave2OTM systems include several proprietary innovations including:
Products Details
- a system and process for rapid and safe WEC deployments in remote areas;
- a system design that is easy to maintain which enables long-term reliable operation;
- an efficient RO process that eliminates two energy conversion steps.
Wave2OTM systems are readily scalable which enables “just in time” adjustments to production capacity. This is because the entire Wave2OTM system is packaged in standard marine containers and can be installed in a matter of days which allows water resource managers to more precisely match supply with demand without the need for massive infrastructure investments in pipelines, canals, and electrical production and transmission assets.
Wave Energy
- a much smaller onshore footprint; and
- no audio or visual impact.
To the casual observer, waves look like up-and-down “bumps” on the sea surface when, in reality, waves are made up of water particles in orbital motion that create energy mainly in “heave” and “surge” modes. If you’ve ever swum in coastal waters, you’ve likely experienced the incredible power of both forms of wave energy and understand how harnessing it could yield a multitude of benefits.
Our technology extracts energy from the waves via an “Oscillating Wave Surge Converter” (OWSC) that captures the horizontal motion (surge) of waves to generate hydraulic power. The illustration (below) shows how the “surge” component of ocean waves can transfer energy to a flap which, in turn, drives a pump that creates hydraulic power that can be utilized in many ways including for water and electricity production.
Application
Over 1 billion people suffer from the effects of water scarcity and the majority of those affected live near a coastline in a developing country, small island nation or remote community. To satisfy the potable water needs of a growing world population increasingly exposed to extreme climate events and to ensure that scarce water supplies are more evenly distributed, experts agree that desalinating seawater on a large scale is required. However, seawater desalination methodologies are extremely energy intensive and thus the people who suffer most from the effects of water scarcity are often those who have no access to, or cannot afford, the energy required.
Our business model involves setting up local subsidiaries in target markets in partnership with local investors, supply chain partners, academic institutions and government to implement projects. In this way, we create strong incentives to cooperate and fulfill our mandate to equip and train a local workforce to ensure uninterrupted service for our customers and bring our life-saving technology to multiple markets throughout the world.
