Konstrack - Screw Compressor Control System
Compressed air is 5 times more expensive than electricity, but this is very often ignored. The main examples of inefficient compressor operation are unreasonably high operating pressures and increased, uncontrolled idling.
At most production facilities, operating pressures are maintained 1-2 atm higher than necessary, “for backup” so to speak. But compressing air for every additional atmosphere above the required pressure wastes about 7% of the installed compressor capacity.
If several compressors are used in production, their interaction is by means of step pressure setting. As the number of compressors increases, the total pressure fork increases, which can be as much as 2 atm above the required pressure. This is a direct loss of power. In addition, each compressor is controlled by a separate controller and the compressors constantly go into idle mode (a mode of compressor operation in which no compressed air is produced and the motor is running). In this mode, the screw compressor consumes about 40% of the installed capacity and does not produce compressed air. The operation mode of several compressors is coordinated only by pressure, it is not possible to control, let alone reduce the idle speed.
All these negative aspects of the compressor group can be eliminated with the Airleader screw compressor control system, by the German company WF Steuerungstechnik GmbH.
