Solar Reflectance Technology

Solar reflectance is the ratio of solar energy that falls on a surface to the amount reflected. It is measured with a  a scale of 0 (not reflective) to 1: (100 percent reflective).

Roofing shingles made with Blue Planet solar reflecting granules exceed LEED requirements with a solar reflectance of at least 0.73 – nearly 3 times the reflectance of average roof shingles.

This can help decrease the amount of heat transferred into a building. This not only helps keep interior areas cooler and reduces the strain on any home cooling devices, it also reduces electricity usage and power plant emissions associated with cooling.
