Two-Pass Boilers
From Boilers
GE’s two-pass boiler is the workhorse of the power industry, generating steam for today’s large-scale global power projects (up to 1,350 MWe) at pressures and temperatures that can reach the service limits of contemporary materials.

High cycle efficiency
High cycle efficiency
High cycle efficiencies at ultra-supercritical conditions reaching 44 to 47% on an LHV basis (42 to 45%), leading to cleaner operation and lowered fuel consumption
Low primary NOx emissions
Low primary NOx emissions using advanced tangential firing systems and effective overfire air arrangements, resulting in less reagent consumption and SCR catalyst material
Outstanding operational flexibility
Outstanding operational flexibility for temperature control, grid code requirements, sliding pressure capability, and load cycling. Reduced construction time and cost using advanced construction techniques and standard component design and fabrication
Furnace and Convective Passes, Tilting Tangential Firing System
Radiant pendant surfaces are located above the furnace, and convective surfaces are arranged horizontally in the second pass. The two-pass configuration results in an efficient furnace height and a lower cost of construction. Our patented tilting tangential firing system accommodates the large spectrum of fuels found across the globe (multiple grades of coal, oil, gas, heavy residues, biomass and other opportunity fuels), and is a leader in primary emissions control.
