Welysis - Hydrogen Production Plants
Welysis specializes in the development and implementation of hydrogen production facilities using electrolysis, which is crucial in several industrial sectors. In oil refining, hydrogen plays a significant role in processes like hydrocracking to produce fuels such as gasoline, diesel, and naphtha. In the chemical industry, hydrogen is utilized in the production of substances like hydrochloric acid, ammonia, and hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, hydrogen serves vital purposes in metallurgical, glass, cosmetics, and food industries. It is notable for its application as an alternative fuel, where it can be used in combustion engines or fuel cells to generate electrical energy, supporting sustainable vehicle transport and enhancing energy independence while reducing carbon emissions.
Hydrogen is a very light gas, whose main properties are that it is flammable, colourless, odourless, non-metallic and insoluble in water.
In our electrolysis plants, hydrogen is obtained through the process of the electrolysis of sodium chloride and water by passing electrical energy in the form of a direct current. The hydrogen gas is formed at the cathode by the following reaction: 2 H2O + 2e- = H2(g) + 2 OH-
