Wireless Modem Enabling Smart Electric Meters
Samart Telcoms PCL is the first to introduce and supply the complete wireless Automated Meter Reading (AMR) solution to Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Thailand. 30,000 units of the Automated Meter Reading solution will be deployed in 73 provinces in Thailand. They are appointed to propose and integrate a wireless Automated Meter Reading solution. One of the tasks was to select a reliable wireless modem to integrate into the system.
Approach
The proposed modem is based on iWOW’s iTegno modem series. This ready-to-deploy modem offers an instant connectivity to the existing electronic meter available in PEA. As this technology was first to be introduced in PEA, iWOW has provide support on the feasibility study and proof of concept to ensure smooth integration of the complete wireless Automated Meter Reading project.
Result
The iTegno GSM/GPRS modem uses a RJ-45 interface to communicate with the existing electronic meter. The GSM/GPRS communication system enables continuous and reliable data transmission between the metering device and the central reporting system.
