- ZGT - Model 45 - Hight Carbon Steel ...
The 45/S45C/1045 is a kind of steel which the carbon content is appromately 0.45% and other elements can not affect its properties obviously.
Compared with the normal mild steel, the #45/S45C/1045 steel has higher strength and hardness. Taking the hot rolled S235 and S45C for example, the yield strength (Re) of S235 is equal to or higher than 235 MPa while this value for 45# is gernally 500-600 MPa. The surface hardness of S235 can not be measured while this value for #45/S45C/1045 is 2-5 HRC in general.
The Enduring Charm of Middle Carbon Steel in Manufacturing
For over a millennium, humans have relied on middle carbon steel to craft essential tools and implements. From kitchen knives to farm shovels, this material has proven irreplaceable for certain products, showcasing its unique appeal.
Understanding Middle Carbon Steel
Middle carbon steel, a type of heat-treated steel, initially exhibits a relatively low hardness, ranging from 75-90 HBW. This makes it ideal for processes such as stamping, drilling, and large radius bending. Post-machining, the steel undergoes quenching and tempering to achieve the desired hardness and mechanical properties.
Applications and Advantages
The versatility of #45/S45C/1045 steel makes it particularly suitable for manufacturing components and parts with complex shapes. It offers enhanced strength, hardness, and wear resistance, making it a preferred choice in various industries.
Case Study: Car Safety Buckle
Consider the car safety buckle. During the initial manufacturing stages, the material must be easily stamped, requiring a lower hardness. However, in the later stages, higher strength is crucial. Middle carbon steel, specifically #45/S45C/1045, is chosen for this application due to its ability to meet these contrasting requirements effectively.
In conclusion, the middle carbon steel’s adaptability and durability continue to make it a cornerstone in the production of essential tools and components, ensuring its place in manufacturing for generations to come.
