SHARE

The BMP (Biochemical Methane Potential) Study is a basic laboratory procedure used to show potential methane yield in an anaerobic digester from a given substrate. This 4 week study includes a simple prescreening for TS, VS, and soluble COD.

  • Generalized Biogas Analysis: Shows maximum methane yield under ideal conditions that can be used to guide management decisions.
  • Operational Impact Assessment: Determine the future impact of a potential on-site operational change like loading rates, substrate alterations, or adjustments to retention times.

The BMP (Biochemical Methane Potential) Study provides a generalized assessment of a specific substrates ability to produce methane under ideal anaerobic conditions. The BMP study can be used for testing feedstock supplements and evaluating toxicity.  Although the BMP Study does not clearly reflect on site performance, it can help guide operational or management decisions.

Each study begins with a consultation to understand the specific goals and needs of the site.  After receiving samples, we run a simple prescreening of TS, VS, COD.  Two control digesters (one replicate) and up to 6 test digesters (3 replicates) for up to 28 days, during which we will assess biogas production and quality and quantity. A comprehensive report with the full test data is provided following the conclusion of the study.
