Flushing a new system will also help to prolong the life of the new boiler, it’s recommended to have your boiler serviced every 6-12 months for optimal performance. If you haven’t had your boiler serviced for several years then a power flush may be necessary before servicing can go ahead.

Why should I have my boiler serviced?
Magnetite build up (sludge) within the central heating system as a result of corrosion will reduce heat transfer and efficiency. Deposits of minerals and limescale can also cause a loss in efficiency meaning a maintenance is required.
How is the boiler cleaned?
A powerflush can be conducted by a qualified gas engineer, they use a mechanised pump using water from the mains whilst adding cleaning products into the pump to flush the boiler clean.
How long does it take?
A basic flush for the whole system will normally take between 2-3 hours, whereas a more thorough flush or power flush can take a full day because each radiator is cleaned with a high powered pump. Cleaning alone wont always help the system, it is important to treat the central heating system with special chemicals to prevent corrosion. Check the Gas Safe Register for approved gas engineers.
