Borealis wins contract as Merit Reviewer for US DOE EGS Solicitations
The Geothermal Technologies Program (GTP) at the United States Department of Energy (DOE) recently put out THREE funding opportunities announcements (FOA) for awards in geothermal technologies including research, development and field demonstration of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) next-generation technologies. On May 27, 2009, President Obama announced $350 million of American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funding in support of geothermal technologies

The Geothermal Technologies Program (GTP) will facilitate research, development, and demonstration to establish EGS as a major contributor for electricity generation. The DOE is seeking advanced technology to address key aspects of site selection and characterization, reservoir creation and validation, reservoir sustainability, and plant operation and management. Enhanced Geothermal Systems are engineered reservoirs created to produce energy from geothermal resources deficient in water and/or permeability. The ultimate goal is to make large amounts of the earth’s heat available for productive use at economic costs.
