1862

Gaz Belge, the oldest of Tractebel Engineering`s four mother company`s, is founded in Brussels (Belgium). It provides gas lighting and heating.

1880

Société Générale de Chemins de Fer Economiques, the second mother company, is established.

1895

Two more of Tractebel Engineering`s mother companies are created. Compagnie Mutuelle de Tramways (later to become Tractionel) and Société Générale Belge d`Entreprises Electriques (SGBEE).

1900

All four mother companies are involved in gas lighting and public transport. They build and manage gasworks, horse tram networks and steam branch lines in Belgium, but also in France, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary, Poland, Russia and Portugal. Power and infrastructure, Tractebel Engineering`s core activities, were there from the very beginning.

1929

Gaz Belge, Société Générale Belge d`Entreprises Electriques (SGBEE) and Société Générale de Chemins de Fer Economiques merge to become the engineering consultancy Electrobel.

1986

Electrobel and Tractionel merge. The name Tractebel is born along with a new engineering division: Tractebel Engineering.

2003

Tractebel absorbs the Societe Generale de Belgique. The company created is called SUEZ-Tractebel, a wholly owned subsidiary of SUEZ.

2008

SUEZ merges with Gaz de France to form GDF SUEZ. Tractebel Engineering is now the engineering consultancy for the world`s no.1 independent energy group.

2009

Tractebel Engineering becomes a legal entity and a fully fledged independent company within the GDF SUEZ Energy Services business unit of GDF SUEZ.
