Conceptual design (pre-planning)

The goals for the design process are set in the conceptual design phase. The starting points are basic facts like the user`s needs and demands, the ways of utilizing and developing the space, its logistics and technical systems, the cost constraints as well as future programming outline.

The goal of the conceptual design phase is the initial technical data and preliminary cost estimate. The client gets a realistic analysis of the needs and budgetary requirements as well as interaction between different design disciplines of the whole project.

Creative methods like modelling and visualisation of spaces can also be used in conceptual design to illustrate spatial and logistic requirements.

Supporting other design disciplines

AV systems affect also other areas of a building project. Space requirements, heat and power loads, technical areas, rigging, special cabling requirements must be considered. In large-scale performance spaces the initial data from the theatre consultant can easily be the most important, demanding and limiting information for the design team.

System design

System design specifies the entity of the technical system. The documentation for the system design phase is used as the final tendering documents.
