Enterprise Institute For Renewable Fuels
In 2007 the Taylor family, owners of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, joined forces with the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, the largest independent plant research center in the world, to establish the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Institute for Renewable Fuels. The Institute's aim is to create the next generation of alternative fuel technologies from environmentally sound plant and algal sources, thus reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and our dependence on non-renewable resources.

Dr. Thomas Brutnell joined the Danforth Center in 2012 to lead the Institute. A primary objective of Dr. Brutnell's program is to expand the research portfolio to include the use of model plant systems to accelerate gene discovery and the development of second generation lignocellulosic feedstocks. This work will complement ongoing bio-oil research and provide new opportunities for forming academic and industrial partnerships.
Research under the Enterprise umbrella will have environmental and economic impacts nationally and internationally, and could make the St. Louis region a focal point for this innovative field
