The 9830B series programmable AC Power Sources provide high performance and low total harmonic distortion in a 3U form factor.

This series offers power up to 3000 VA with support for 3-phase operation by combining multiple AC sources.

In addition to AC, these sources are also capable of outputting pure DC or AC+DC signals.

Applications range from simulating grid faults and line disturbances, to evaluating transformers and pre-compliance testing according to IEC standards.

The 9830B series features high power density in a 3U form factor. Dimensions are approximately 16 and a half inches, by 5.2 inches, by 22 inches.

The front panel features a bright 4.3 inch color LCD, simultaneously displaying up to 12 measurements including inrush current and power factor.

The menu soft keys combined with rotary knob and navigation keys simplify operation for output adjustments and parameter control.

Save instrument settings and screenshots on a flash drive using the USB host port.

Taking a look at the back of the source we find several remote connections including RS232, LAN, USBTMC, and GPIB interfaces, all standard.

The digital I/O port connects trigger in, remote inhibit, and other controls for system integration and 3-phase operation.

To operate in three-phase mode, three 9830B series AC sources are connected with TL983P adapters shown here.
These modules connect the phase synchronization and timing signals between each of the sources.

A dedicated BNC connector is used for external analog control or as an input for the amplifier mode.

Power output and remote sense terminals are also located here.

The 9830B series offers many built-in programming and waveform generation features.

Output sine, square, clipped sine waveforms, or select from 30 built-in harmonic distortion waveforms, combined with either a positive or negative DC offset voltage.

Step, list and pulse modes for generating repeatable powerline disturbances to simulate voltage drops, surges, sags and frequency changes.

Amplifier mode is another useful feature that can support any signal within the 1.2 kilo hertz bandwidth limit.

Protection features include overvoltage, current, power, and temperature protection with output timer and key lock functions.

3-phase capabilities are available by combining three AC sources.
All specifications are the same except for the frequency range which is limited to a maximum of 600 Hz.

Parameters of a 3-phase or multi-phase system can also be controlled remotely using the provided phase control software with live monitoring and datalogging capabilities.

The PC software allows you to emulate the front panel, generate and execute list, step, and pulse modes, and log measurement data without the need to write source code.

The software supports user created harmonic waveforms up to 40th order.
Download the waveforms into internal memory to store and recall up to 5 harmonic distortion waveforms.

An optional 3-phase kit is available to combine multiple AC sources.

Optional rack mount ears are available for 19-inch rack mount applications.

Included in the box is an AC power cord, test report, and certificate of calibration.

The 9830B Series AC sources can be used in single or multi- phase applications and provide other useful functions like DC power supply and signal amplifier modes. The 9830B Series truly-meets a wide range of applications.
