On a steam assist flare near the coast, provided by Aereon in 2013, the client reported repeated issues with pilot outages and exciter failures for the installed Model 255 pilots. Frequent rain storms and damp salt air resulted in these reoccurring failures of both primary and back-up ignition systems. Following a detailed review of site conditions and operational requirements, Aereon’s engineering team designed and implemented the new “Hurricane Proof” pilot, capable of operating in >130MPH wind conditions, and heavy rain. The new pilots were installed early 2017, and have been running with zero issues since!!
