Renewable Heat

Air Source Heat Pump

An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts the heat it generates inside. Even cold air is full of energy and ASHP uses the freely available heat in the ambient air to provide efficient heating and hot water at temperatures as low as -25˚C. As air is abundantly available all around us, ASHP has the advantage of low installation costs and minimal space requirements. The relatively mild winter temperatures in the UK mean excellent levels of efficiency and performance are achieved throughout the year. There are two main types of ASHP, air-to-water and air-to-air systems. An air-to-water system distributes heat via a wet central heating system, using water for the heat transfer. An air-to-air system produces warm air that is then circulated by fans to heat the property.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Units

Using electricity available through the National Grid is high in carbon and expensive to use. Creating electricity is also an inefficient process. One alternative is to use combined heat and power (CHP) units, which simultaneously generate electricity and heat.

Solar Thermal Systems

Solar thermal systems are capable of providing up to 60% of the annual hot water requirements in both domestic and commercial applications. They work by harnessing solar radiation, which is used to efficiently and effectively heat water stored in a cylinder, ready for use whenever required. Compared to a standard fossil fuel heating system, maintenance and servicing costs are typically lower as there is no need for regular servicing and maintenance is kept to a minimum. In addition to the financial benefits, a solar thermal system will also help reduce the carbon footprints of a property.
