Enzyme Enhanced Microbial Anaerobic Digester (EEMAD)
Anaerobic digestion is the process of digesting organic matter by bacteria in an oxygen free environment. This is a process that is found in many naturally occurring environments such as watercourses, waterlogged soils and the mammalian digestive tract such as a cow.
Cellulase Fusion Enzyme
The cellulase fusion enzyme has been designed to convert cellulose directly to glucose under conditions that allow yeast fermentation. Lingnocellulosic feed stocks require at least three enzymatic activities to release trapped sugars for conversion into energy. A synergistic sequence of events releases sugar. Endocellulase acts randomly on the cellulose chain, while exocellulase acts on exposed chain ends by splitting off cellobiose. Cellobiose is subsequently hydrolyzed by glucosidase to glucose.
