The Joule Hive Thermal Battery (JHTB) is an innovative technology offering a compelling solution for converting existing natural gas power plants into grid-scale energy storage systems. This thermal battery uses electricity, often excess from renewable sources, to generate and store high-temperature heat. When electricity demand surpasses supply, the stored heat is converted back into electricity via high-pressure hot air directed to gas turbines. This process allows for round trip efficiencies exceeding 60%, making it a cost-effective alternative to lithium-ion batteries for energy storage.
