Our Power Engines
Watter Buddy - DC Power Generator Machine
This little machine generates DC power from a source such as a stream running down a hillside. Water is channelled into a pipeline with enough drop (head) to build up sufficient pressure. It can also be used with water systems that are under pressure like the water in city supplies. The water passes through a small nozzle where it gives up pressure for velocity. The water then passes through the turbine runner which converts the energy in the water into shaft power and spins the generator. This electric power is first alternating current (AC) that is converted into direct current (DC) with a device called a rectifier. The power then goes to the output terminals (binding posts) where it is available to charge batteries or use directly with suitable appliances.

New! Injection Molded housing with drip lip! In the 1970’s Paul Cunningham, owner and operator of Energy Systems & Design, had a need to power his off-grid house. He set off on a mission to create an efficient and reliable micro hydro machine. Utilizing a car alternator type micro hydro machine and the wheels he cast himself, he created the first machine. Through many hard-working days and design changes he was able to produce very efficient pelton and turgo wheels and sold these wheels to other enthusiasts.
ESD - X-Stream Engine

ESD - Low Head Stream Engine
The LH1000 is specifically designed machine to operate efficiently in low-head sites. It takes advantage of the same generator as the Stream Engine, however the water turbine component uses a low head propeller design. The LH1000, is designed to operate in conjunction with battery based power systems, storing electrical power for use at times when consumption exceeds generation.
