History
Since opening our doors in 2007, we’ve added leading electric motor and generator repair brands to the IPS portfolio — increasing our North American reach, sharpening our regional focus and adding depth of experience in key industries — power generation, petrochemical, air separation, metals, oil & gas, mining, paper, pulp & wood products, and aggregates & cement.
Reliance Electric U.S. service centers become Integrated Power Services (IPS)
IPS opened its doors in June 2007. As the former power services unit of Reliance Electric, a leading manufacturer of electric motors, IPS started with the following eleven regional service center — Birmingham, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Houston, Philadelphia, Washington, PA, Portland, OR, Rock Hill, SC, Rock Springs, WY, and Shreveport.
Electro-Mec, Inc. is now IPS Indiana-PA
IPS acquired Electro-Mec in February 2008. As IPS Indiana-PA, the formerly family-owned company has stayed true to its roots, working closely with its customers while providing excellent workmanship and outstanding service in a highly productive work environment. The Indiana, PA, service center is integrated into the IPS regional and coast-to-coast service footprints, serving as a gateway that allows customers to access the entire IPS portfolio of industry-specific experience and single-source capabilities.
Monarch Electric is now IPS Cleveland and IPS Detroit
In September 2008, IPS acquired The Monarch Group, an industry leader in single-source solutions for large and extremely large AC & DC electric motors and generators. Today, IPS Cleveland and IPS Detroit continue to work with power gen, steel and petrochemical customers throughout North America and around the world, offering added services and capabilities as a part of IPS.
Pennsylvania Electric Coil is now IPS Glassport
IPS acquired Glassport with its purchase of The Monarch Group in September 2008. PennCoil gave IPS extensive service and repair experience with large and extremely large electric motors and generators in utilities (fossil fuel, municipal water and hydro generators), nuclear safety and steel mills.
In addition to its big iron repair and field services, PennCoil added almost 90 years of coil manufacturing experience to the IPS service portfolio. Today, as IPS Glassport, the company manufactures high-voltage stator coils up to 15 kV, as well as rotor, armature, field, brake, magnet and specialty coils. It also manufactures Roebel bars.
TRICO TCWIND is now IPS Litchfield and IPS Lake Benton
In September 2008, IPS acquired TRICO TCWIND, a leader in innovative wind power maintenance and repairs and leading regional service provider for continuous process industries, including food and agriculture, pulp and paper, and fossil fuel plants.
As part of IPS, the nation’s leading independent provider of repair and maintenance services for electrical apparatus, IPS Litchfield leads IPS wind services coast-to-coast, while offering even more resources for its long-time industrial customers. IPS Lake Benton leads uptower wind services coast to coast.
Industrial Apparatus Service (IAS) is now IPS Beaumont
In December 2012, IPS acquired Industrial Apparatus Service, providing increased coverage of in-shop and on-site repair services throughout Texas and Louisiana, and increased warehouse capacity for motor and asset storage for the Gulf Coast region.
Continuous Improvement
IPS Lean is part of our culture of continuous improvement—a commitment to quality and safety that every IPS associate holds as a shared value. IPS Lean has its roots in the continuous improvement program that Toyota used to become the world’s number one car manufacturer. We’ve refined the principles of Lean for our service environments, using value stream mapping to eliminate waste from our processes, use of space and inventories.
IPS was the first organization in the electric motor repair industry to address Six Sigma. Removing non-value adding intervals from our work processes and optimizing the value added time gives us a major competitive advantage. Our goal is to provide services with the highest possible QA at the lowest possible cost, do it with lead times the competition can’t match, and without breaking a sweat.
You can see IPS Lean in action by arranging a shop tour at one of our sixteen regional service centers. This commitment to continuous improvement is the key to our industry-leading QA and lead times, focusing people and resources at an operational tempo that has to be seen to be believed.
