Safety transformers are a special type of isolating transformers. For these transformers, in addition to galvanic isolation, additional reinforced insulation elements are inserted between the input winding and output winding. Through this safe separation of the power circuits, the transformer is approved as a reliable supply for SELV and PELV power circuits. Output voltages of the safety transformers are under 50 V AC. They offer special protection against electrical shock.

Starting chokes are inductive alternating current resistors that limit starting current of AC motors and 3-phase motors. They are actuated at start-up in the stator feed lines of the motor, they limit the start-up current to approximately 3x the value of the rated motor current and are bridged by a contactor after the motor starts up. They are configured for temporary duty and are provided with taps if necessary for multi-stage starting.

Isolating transformers are designed to reliably separate the downstream power circuits from the supply network. This is ensured through galvanic isolation between the primary winding and secondary winding of the transformer. Since the voltage on the secondary side of an isolating transformer is not directly connected to the supply network, and therefore there is no connection to the earth potential of the network, thanks to the isolating transformer, users are protected against high voltage and from severe or fatal injuries due to electrical shock. Likewise, the risk of earth faults and associated damage of machines and electronic components due to voltage are minimised.
