MVV Energie, a publicly listed municipal utility g...
MVV Energie, a publicly listed municipal utility group, is one of Germany’s leading and most profitable energy companies. Outstanding features of our group of companies are it balanced business portfolio, which includes electricity, district heating, gas, water, energy-related services and environmental energy, as well as the horizontal networking and integration of its shareholdings in local and regional operators with the same business fields.
With our innovative sales products available throughout Germany, we are increasingly acquiring new customers in the highly competitive electricity and gas markets. In our environmental energy business, which focuses on generating steam and electricity from non-recyclable waste and biomass, we are Germany’s third-largest operator of waste and old timber incineration plants. In our energy services business as well, we have built up a leading position in the German market by offering decentralised energy generation concepts, energy saving contracting services and supplying energy and utilities to industrial parks.
With our strategic realignment, we have laid a foundation for the sustainable profitable further development of our group of companies. We will be investing three billion euros in our existing business and in sustainable profitable growth over the next ten years. Renewable energies and the future markets of climate protection and energy efficiency form one of the focuses of our medium and long-term strategy. We aim to provide our customers with a secure supply in future as well, to create lasting value for our investors and to offer sustainable jobs to our employees.
We see ourselves as: MVV Energie – Supplier of the Future.
MVV Energie AG: a regional energy supplier with vision
MVV Energie AG can look back on a long history as a local supplier of energy, district heating and water to the City of Mannheim. The company has been publicly listed since 1999. The City of Mannheim was thus one of the first municipalities to recognise the signs of the times and to grant its municipal utility company greater freedoms with a new legal form. MVV Energie has become the nerve centre and core of a municipal utility group across the whole of Germany.
Notwithstanding its massive expansion, MVV Energie has remained true to its origins as a company. As its majority shareholder, the City of Mannheim guarantees the company’s stability and ensures that the relationship remain close between the local utility company and the people who live in the city. The quality of this relationship far exceeds the usual dealings between supplier and customer. Around 1,800 employees of MVV Energie live and work in the region. This makes the company a fixed component of the city’s culture. The company also provides support in numerous areas - sport, cultural, social and charitable activities benefit from this close relationship.
It goes without saying that we also feel responsible for the environment in which we live and work. Efficiency therefore plays a key role in the generation and distribution of electricity, gas, water and district heating. For nearly 50 years now, for example, we have supplied inner-city Mannheim with district heating generated by means of cogeneration at Grosskraftwerk Mannheim, our large power plant in the city. Our biomass power plant and our waste incineration activities on Friesenheim Island make a major contribution towards generating electricity in environmentally-friendly ways. And our water, which is drawn from three well systems around the city, is of superb quality – proof of the care we apply in our water extraction and distribution activities.
