OXY - Natural Gas Liquids Assets Services
Natural gas is composed of a light gas component (methane) and a heavier gas liquids component. When separated from the light gas, the resulting natural gas liquids (NGL) include marketable commodities such as ethane, propane, normal butane, isobutane and natural gasoline. Propane is used as a home heating fuel and as a petrochemical feedstock with each market consuming about 50 percent of the product. Ethane also is a petrochemical feedstock. Normal butane and isobutane are used to produce blending components for motor gasoline. Natural gasoline is used as a blending component for motor gasoline and in diluting heavy crude oil.
