Power Purchase Agreement
We offer a tailor-made PPA contract to each of our renewable and small-scale CHP customers. These PPAs typically include the ROCs, LECs and REGOs obtained by the generator, plus embedded and triad benefits, although ROCs and LECs may be traded separately see ROC, LEC & REGO Trading Services. Each PPA is configured to suit the generation profile and precise needs of the renewable generator.
Electricity Trading Services Agreement
ETSAs are available to power producers typically generating in excess of 10MW and in a position to closely manage their output. In order to maximise their income on the power side, these large generators require access to the power markets around the clock. This is something SmartestEnergy`s in-house power & gas traders and Energy Management Centre are able to deliver by managing all the associated credit risks and trading on our customers` behalf with counter-parties such as brokers and screen-based exchanges. Other items such as imbalance prices would generally be passed through at cost, as would any transmission, distribution or other embedded benefits.
ROC, LEC & REGO Trading Services
The Renewables Obligation is the key policy mechanism by which the Government is encouraging the growth necessary to reach the UK`s renewable energy targets. The RO ensures that all licensed electricity suppliers in the UK supply a specified proportion of their electricity sales from eligible renewable sources, increasing annually to 2015/16 and remaining in place until 2037. Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) are issued to accredited generators for each MWh of generation and can be sold separately from the electricity to which they relate. This allows for open trading of certificates. SmartestEnergy is the leading independent player in the ROC trading market and offers a range of ROC-related services to players in the sector. We are ideally placed to maximise the value of the ROCs produced by renewable generation facilities, providing a range of contract structures, based either on a fixed price per ROC or a processing fee or percentage arrangement for both the Buy-Out fund and Recycle benefit.
