The PIA|nova® is our modular coating platform for solar applications. It allows VON ARDENNE to offer standard yet flexible manufacturing equipment for depositing thin films using physical vapor deposition (PVD) technology. As a leading developer and manufacturer of coating equipment for the PV industry, VON ARDENNE has incorporated its superior process knowhow into this platform. This know-how has been gained from over 100 industry-proven glass and photovoltaic coating systems. The PIA|nova® is our answer to customers looking for highly productive and flexible production equipment combined with tried and tested technology and design.

TheXEA|novais an inline wafer coating system with a carrier return transport. It is specifically designed for high-efficiency solar applications such as TCO and metal layers for heterojunction solar cells (HJT). However, it is also suited for other small substrates.

Bipolar plates are essential components of fuel cells. At the moment, graphite-based bipolar plates are used. Even though graphite has good electrical properties, it has also distinct disadvantages: the material is thick, expensive to produce and sensitive to vibration.

VON ARDENNE develops and manufactures electron beam systems which are used for melting, refining, evaporation or heat treatment. The first electron beam gun was developed in 1960 at the Manfred von Ardenne Research Institute. Our more than 50 years of experience are reflected in over 400 electron beam systems installed worldwide.

The VON ARDENNE Linear Organic Evaporator is a component that thermally evaporates organic material in a closed crucible. The vapor is distributed through a heated pipe in the direction across the substrate and released to the substrate through a linear nozzle array.

In the coating industry, not only the technical properties of the coated product are relevant for quality assurance (QA). Short ramp-up times and fast failure detection are also essential to keep coating costs at bay. Hence, inline measurement systems are commonly used and nothing new. There are in-situ measurement systems inside the coaters and ex-situ systems for measurements outside them.
