Alpiq Secures First Battery Energy Storage Project Pipeline in Germany with 370 MW Capacity

Swiss energy company Alpiq has secured its inaugural battery energy storage system (BESS) project pipeline in Germany, targeting a total capacity of 370 MW through a partnership with local developer SPP Development GmbH & Co KG. This collaboration leverages Alpiq’s operational expertise and financial resources alongside SPP’s regional knowledge and technical skills. The proposed BESS installations will be situated in Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt, with plans to reach ready-to-build status by 2026. This initiative aligns with Alpiq’s strategic growth in Europe’s renewable sector, complementing its hydropower portfolio and recent battery projects, including a Finnish facility and a tolling agreement in Germany.
