Energiequelle launches 54-MW wind project in Lower Saxony
German renewable energy developer Energiequelle GmbH has commissioned a 54-MW wind farm in Lower Saxony, northwest Germany, primarily owned by fellow German company Encavis AG (ETR:ECV). Despite challenging conditions marked by persistent winds and wet, boggy terrain, the project was completed in a record 14 months, according to Energiequelle. Situated in Zeven, the wind park features nine Vestas V162 turbines rated at 6 MW each, expected to generate 133 million kWh annually—enough to power approximately 40,000 households. Eight turbines were recently acquired by German wind and solar operator Encavis, while the ninth will be operated by Burgerwindpark Wistedt GmbH & Co KG. Initial project approval was granted in February 2023, with final clearance following in early 2024 after overcoming legal challenges. Construction began in April 2023, despite a six-month delay. Energiequelle plans further wind farm developments in Lower Saxony, including projects in the Rotenburg district.
