Norwegian renewables firm Scatec ASA (OSL:SCATC) announced on Monday that it has secured preferred bidder status for a 288-MW solar project in South Africa`s seventh round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).
The project, named Mercury Solar PV 2, will deliver electricity through a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) once operational. Commercial close for REIPPPP Bid Window 7 is anticipated in the latter half of 2025, according to Scatec’s brief statement.
Scatec will hold a 50.9% equity stake in the project and will oversee engineering, procurement, and construction services, along with operations, maintenance, and asset management services.
Scatec was among three companies chosen in Bid Window 7, which allocated a total of 1,760 MW of solar power capacity, with a significant portion awarded to Infinity Power Holding SA.
