Acciona - Hydroelectric Power Technologies
Hydroelectric power has been one of ACCIONA Energy’s activities since the company’s early days. It was initially part of a process of modernization and valorization of small hydro plants, and later developed into the construction of new plants. We therefore have considerable experience in this technology, both in terms of evaluating the water resource and in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of plants. Following a major acquisition of hydroelectric assets from Endesa in 2009, we now own a total of 76 plants in a number of river basins in Spain, with an overall capacity of 876 MW (the consolidated figure is identical). This makes hydroelectric power our second biggest source of electricity generation after wind power.

ACCIONA Energy generated 2,581 GWh from hydropower in 2018, representing 11.7% of the total electric power of the company in that year.
