Merus Power - Model 4DRIVES -Active Harmonic Filter for VFDs
The Merus 4DRIVES Active Harmonic Filter is specifically engineered for applications involving Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). This device offers a streamlined solution to address complex power quality issues by mitigating harmonic currents at the point of measurement. By employing techniques similar to those of noise-canceling headphones, the filter measures distorted currents and injects harmonic frequencies with opposite phase angles, effectively canceling out harmonic currents. This process reduces voltage distortion and supports dynamic reactive power compensation, which aids in power factor improvement and voltage sag mitigation. The design of the filter focuses on user-friendly operation, featuring a 7-inch touch screen for easy commissioning and operation. It can control up to seven modules simultaneously, and remote control and monitoring are facilitated through a cloud-based platform. The filter's modular design allows for easy integration into VFD systems without the need for external power supplies or controllers, while ensuring redundancy through independent operation of successive modules.

Merus 4DRIVES active harmonic filter provides an optimized solution for variable frequency drive (VFD) applications. One active harmonic filter can be used for multiple six-pulse drives in a system. The filter selection and dimensioning can be made based on the needed harmonic current distortion. The filter current rating is substantially lower than the combined drive load current, which allows savings in comparison to active front-end (AFE) drives.
