In conventional energy production, approximately 38% of the primary energy converted to electricity, the rest goes lost irrevocably. For the separate production of heat, energy sources are burned again, causing a higher CO2 emissions and higher costs. For CHP plants, however, the heat produced is in power generation coupled and can be used as hot water or heating. So, up to 90% of the used energy can be used and up to 40% primary energy can be saved.
One thing is certain, there are enough investment backlog of old heaters, minimal insulation, leaky windows and doors. An energetic modernization, however, can reduce energy consumption by more than two thirds. An important step is usually the modernization of heating systems because the heat in homes with 75% of energy costs has a significant share of the energy budget of the property.
